Bumrungrad was the first Asian hospital accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), the international arm of the organization that reviews and accredits American hospitals. Their checklist includes over 350 standards, for everything from surgical hygiene and anesthesia procedures to the systems in place to credential medical staff and nurses. JCI sends a team to re-review hospitals at 3-year intervals. Bumrungrad was first accredited in 2002, re-accredited in 2005 and 2008.

Thailand also has its own Hospital Accreditation program conducted by the Institute of Hospital Quality Improvement & Accreditation. I was most impressed by your facility, the competency of your staff, the high degree of technology employed, and with Dr. Avtar. I have spent a total of 98 days as an inpatient in several hospitals all related to diverticulitis which required removal of part of my intestine in 1989. I have nevert been treated at such a fine facility as Bumrungrad. If I could choose any hospital to have treatment at, it would be Bumrungrad without a doubt. Although my visit to your facility was for a rather simple ailment, I was not at ease with prior diagnosis and treatment until I was treated by Dr. Avtar. I was admitted via the emergency room and I had to have my gall bladder removed in an emergency surgery.The nurses on the 7th floor really took great care of me from the time I came in until my surgery. I was in such great pain and being in a foreign country it can be a real scare going in for medical treatment.The nurse helped me get into my room, administered pain medication and checked on me constantly. They were so attentive and were a real comfort in my time of need. I must say, they were like angels around me. The doctors were also very professional and the surgical staff did a fine job. When they hit a snag they chose to work longer with the arthoroscopic equipment and add an additional camera instead of opening me up. This extra effort saved me weeks of recovery time and pain as well as function of my body in the future. Thank you so much to your great staff !!!!
