St Vincent’s is a world-class public hospital offering best-in-class services, facilities, and expertise, along with educational opportunities. We have an international reputation for innovation and are regarded as a centre of excellence for clinical care, research, teaching and medical leadership. However, conversely, we are also a very community-focused organisation, being an established and essential part of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs neighbourhood. In fact, in 2007 we celebrated our Sesquicentenary (150 years). St Vincent’s Hospital was founded on the principles of compassion, care and respect for all people – and these ethical tenets are still the driving force behind our philosophy and methodology.
In 1991 St Vincent's Hospital was incorporated under its own Act of Parliament and is now known as St Vincent's Hospital Limited. In April 1996, St Vincent's joined the Sisters of Charity Health Service, which has 17 health care facilities and is Australia's largest not-for-profit health provider. Today, St Vincent’s Hospital is one of Australia’s leading acute care hospitals active in teaching and research. In 150 years, the Hospital has earned a reputation for providing the highest quality of care and compassion for all.
HIGHLIGHTS
Mission & Values
The values of St Vincent’s Hospital derive from the mission and traditions of the Sisters of Charity. Firmly grounded in the Christian tradition, our values seek to give form to our activities and are at the core of our Code of Conduct and Code of Ethical Standards .
Inspired by the values of the Sisters of Charity and Sisters of Mercy, our mission is to bring the healing ministry of Christ to all we serve.
Vision
Our vision is to serve the community through excellence in care, teaching and research in both public and private health and aged care services, and to reach out to the poor and the marginalised. In doing so, we maintain our fundamental respect for the skills and talents of our staff and our profound respect for the humanity of every individual patient.
