Professor Jan Pirk is one of the Czech Republic's best-known cardiac surgeons, long associated with the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine (IKEM) in Prague, where he headed the cardiovascular surgery clinic from 1991 and later the entire IKEM Cardiocenter.
